Interviewing the hopeless

It was another day of interviewing for me.
Interviewing looks to be my secondary job these days but i do love it !

So here was another day of the month where i was ready to meet some of the smartest chaps in industry who thinks they know more than they put on their resumes.

I have now interviewed more than 10 dozen candidates for my company and project.
Every time my faith goes stronger that its hard to find a good talent these days!

I interview wired of all and dumbest of all, who thinks they are best for the job.
what makes me feel pity about them is that they are not going to learn that they have to accept fallacy in themselves.

now here i want to leave tip for all those who are going for interviews ... hoping they do not catch me ....

1. First and most important thing that impress any interviewer is the "Dress code"
I have seen such comedians and jokers coming for interview that its sometimes hard to . They will dress in all wired colors, T-shirts,

2. The way you greet. A little smile and a friendly greets works a lot. It actually comes from confidence you have in you.

3. No fake resumes. Most "qualified" interviewers can make what is on your resume and what is in you ...

4. Be sure why you are in the room, i.e. why you want this job? Are you capable? do you understand what is the vacancy for and where you fit in? Are you aware how your skills will matter in the project and which additional skills will be utilized.

5. For Holy God's Sake, don't stare at interviewer. There is a thin line between staring and having a friendly eye contact.

6. Be professional.

7. Don't tell me your loyalty for a company depends on "what pay cheque" you get !

8. Don't tell me your seniors hated you or you hated them in your current organization and thats the reason you want to move on.

9. Tell all your geninue problems, we understand, we have been there but just don't build any crap and expect people to buy !

10. If you don't know where you will be in next 5 years then either you are a fresher or does not like to work !

11. Expect interviwer to throw more "logical" questions rather than one people "google" or have read in their books.

12. Honestly is good, but if you think you can handle everything single handedly, believe me you are out ! Its a team that creates success ... a selfish individual only brings failure !

13. Answer to the point ... don't take interviewer for a ride ... what you did last sunday and what you will be doing next sunday ! stick to point ! don't think you can dodge the interviwer !

14. If you don't know any question , just don't give up nor answer it quickly to what you can make out of it. Most things are linked, you can logically come close to it !! believe me it works .. just use the  150 pound of stuff on your shoulders !

Ah .. list is long ... get in touch with me ..

Before I pack this blog, i will like to mention this guy, whom i interviewed for some technical requrirement for my company.

This guy enters the room. I quickly scanned his resume. Questioned him things he wrote in his resume and in a minute it was clear his resume is fake.
I googled the companies he worked with and could'nt find if the company ever existed. He tried best to hide that it took him 6 years to complete his engineering. In 3 years had changed 4 companies and this was his fifth try. According to him there is nothing as a word loyalty between a company and a employee .. its a mutual dependecies of each other.

So it was easy to figure out he is not the person we need but since he was the last candidate I had to interview (and I was very tired interiewing around 12 profiles) so i thought to know this person more, read it "the devil in me". I asked his favorite topic that we can talk. He picked up Stocks .. bad luck for him because I was in banking. Only thing he knew about stocks and investment was that his friends invest in stock markets and they make some good money.

I asked him to pick another subject and this time out of odds, he picked up orkut. "I like orkutting" is what he said.
I asked him which country has the maximum orkut users, he was blank ! (pssss ... answer is Brazil) Then i asked him, orkut is product of which company, I was taken back when he said ... who cares .. its fun to use orkut !

I decided to rest his case and told him it was pleasure chatting with him.
I was not surprised to hear his reply that he too was happy with our conversation and wanted to know by when will he get his joining letter !!

some one kill me !

Busy Tuesdays ...

ahh !! another busy day ... things are so much predictable and repeatable !

After working in software industry you tend to see the patterns of things going to happen and repeat, like it's friday and you are about to sign-off and suddenly someone just pings you up to tell the release is giving some issues. You know it will take only 5 minutes to resolve and then you will be free bird and then you end up spending your weekend fixing the same.

Tuesdays are so much predictable for me. They are mostly busy. Might be because my US team realizes things are going wrong on monday (which is the time we are sleeping in India and its already Tuesday for us) and next day i.e. tuesday for me goes explaining and doing some research !

Hey I am busy today .. so this blog is short and over after the fullstop on this line.

Lazy Sunday ....

This Sunday was like any another lazy Sundays spent sleeping, reading and thinking a lot !

Watched lots of movies, "Seven Years in Tibet", "Last Samurai". "Babel" and a horror "Dead Silence". I guess horror movies have formed a part of my so called "movie-diets", they keeps my adrenalin pumping and make me realize that i am still so much human ... still afraid !

Last friday I watched the over-hyped and awaited Hindi Movie "Jodha Akbar". It was a sheer waste of time and money, but still I will like to thank the makers of the movie for two things:

1. For the song "Khwaja". It really enlightened me spiritually. Never felt so close to GOD !

Hopefully will be traveling to Ajmer next month to Dargha Sharif. (A long drive of 500 Km from Delhi). It has been long since I visited any place of worship, I can't recall any after my 10th standard, which will be like around 10 years now!

All this weekend I studied lot about "Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti" also known as "Garib Nawaz". His teachings are really inspiring me.

"Those who are true Lovers of God give away both of the worlds for the sake of their Beloved and even then feel that they have done nothing worthy."

2. For provoking my interest in History again. I did a little reading about Indian history from Indus Valley to Maurya and then to Mughals.

After all that readings, I tuned my Guitar. It has been long since i played the guitar. Few weeks back only Shauz had gifted me a tuner, so i thought of respecting his gifting and atleast try tuning using it. I quickly tuned my guitar and played some old time chords, which i loved to play. I hope i will be practicing more from now on.

Now I am all set to start my work ... Hope to be regular with this blogging too ... !
